Ventricular Contractions
Finally made it to the end of No Strings Attached, after two separate viewings. It was all right. I thought the similar Friends with Benefits had more merits.
In other news, I watched Unofficially Yours during the weekend. It’s the Filipino version of the two above mentioned movies. The queue was insane! I didn’t get why the Ayala mall cinema I was at didn’t offer reserved seats...

Nothing Lasts Forever
I haven’t finished watching No Strings Attached yet, but there are quite a few screencappable scenes.

Project: Orinoco
I’ve written about this before but allow me to once again wax about something I seriously want to venture into.
It’s called Project: Orinoco.
Basically, I want to visit all the places Enya mentioned in her song, Orinoco Flow. I’ve done my (Internet) research and as far as I could dig, no one’s done this before, so that makes it a little more exciting for me.
Uluwatu,...

Favorite Finds: Salad Dressing
Since November, I’ve been on the search for that elusive bottle of Wish-Bone Light Asian with Sesame and Ginger Vinaigrette. I’ve tried several stores, including Makati Supermarket (where I first found it), but to no luck. I did, however, end up with a salad dressing haul from Rustan’s Fresh last week.
This was not planned. As usual, I was scouring the shelves for that...

Dressed to the Nines
Nothing is more comforting than stumbling upon that one product that just works. That one product you know you’ll stick to forever because it is so good/dependable. Well, a few months ago, I found the perfect salad dressing: Wish-Bone’s Light Asian with Sesame and Ginger Vinaigrette.
Personally, this is quite a find being that salad is my staple food. I’m a lazy...

Minor Detail #15
Common sense is not one of my strongest suits.
I’m a big believer in multiple intelligences and that one intelligence is not necessarily better than the other. While I think I’m slightly gifted in some aspects, I’ve always wondered where the hell I was when The Maker showered common sense and street smarts to the world. It appears I possess neither; and either, I think, would make me an...

Wanderlusting
So 2011 was the year the travel bug bit. I revisited this entry I wrote last year and a few things have sprung to mind:
I haven’t written a Minor Details entry in the longest time! Actually, I already have a list; I’ve just been putting off the writing task.
My thoughts haven’t changed: I still want to work for an airline (because I want to go places) and I want travel to be my...

Travel Blogging
I’ve been blogging for almost a decade now and the content has pretty much consisted of the same old, same old: favorite songs, quirky finds, (reality) TV, some (unfinished) ventures, and a lot of narcissistic urges. Lately, I’ve been thinking about refocusing the content of the site so that it wouldn’t just be a hodgepodge of random stuff, even though I like to call the blog,...

Method to Madness
Lately, it seems that the only way to achieve “equanimity” is by sweeping things under the rug. Because trying to find the correct and seemly solution is so excruciating. This search for the essential and ultimate fix has brought nothing but trouble and grief. It makes you wonder if there really is a true way around this madness, a true way to find a meeting of the minds.
So, in the...

The Devil on Your Back
You know how I love Florence Welch (and her machine), so it’s no wonder how hooked I am to Shake It Out, the first single from her new album, Ceremonials. By hooked I mean, playing the song on loop at the office, at home, and while running. It’s one of those songs you need to play with the volume turned all the way up. You either listen to it on blaring speakers (or headphones) or...

To Leap Without Looking
First off, wasn’t that a delightful episode of Revenge? It’s been a while since Emily Thorne/Amanda Clarke last destroyed a foe, of this magnitude. You knew she was going to exact revenge that way, what with the outward references to lighters, matches, and fire throughout the episode. Tsk tsk, you don’t mess with this girl.
And for our weekly screencaps, I found this dialogue...

The Hardest Word
And Revenge is back on air! Oh how I’ve missed you, my dear cunning Emily Thorne.
Oh but Emily Thorne doesn’t apologize!

More Fun in the Philippines?
So yesterday’s hot news was the Department of Tourism’s new tourism slogan, “It’s More Fun in the Philippines.” Within minutes of its official announcement, it had become the #1 worldwide trending topic on Twitter. In fact, it’s still the #1 trending topic in the Philippines, as of writing. Until now, people are talking about it, and for good reason.
General...

Motivation
Our new dining table is my thesis nook. I’ve taken a monopoly of it since the day it was delivered to our house. I find that I am more productive when I am working downstairs, in this area. And I foresee that this will be the setup until the end of the school year or until I finish my thesis, whichever comes first.
It’s hard to juggle teaching and getting an MS degree. The teaching part, I can...

All Over But the Shouting (Part 1/2)
When I was doing my year-ender Q&A for 2010 around this time last year, I was quite lukewarm about the 12 months that had passed. Little did I know that, moments later, I would embark on such a spectacular year. I was telling a friend that no month passed by this 2011 without something eventful (be it good or bad) happening.
I’ve been doing this year-ender Q&A for maybe six years...

Best Served Cold
Okay, I know I haven’t updated ze blog in the longest time but I plan to take advantage of what’s left of the holidays and post the entries and photos I failed to in the past weeks — no, months. Let’s begin with my new favorite series — Revenge. It is DELICIOUS. What can I say, every episode is served up cold.
I was in the throes of writing a chapter for my thesis...

And Then There Was Light!
So 11/11/11 was pretty eventful, the highlight being the installation of my new office lights! Well it was about time; I’d almost considered moving to a temporary room. Actually, my mum called up a relative who (I had no idea) works at the University’s Physical Plant so my filed request was magically expedited hehe.
My ceiling is quite an eyesore though. Removing the original tube...

What Becomes of the Brokenhearted
I never really was a fan of Adele but I guess we can chalk that up to taste. There’s no denying the young artist is mature beyond her years, but I wasn’t that hooked when she entered the music scene. Or maybe I just couldn’t stand Chasing Pavements and everyone attempting to sing the song on TV and (especially) in real life.
It wasn’t until Rolling in the Deep from her...

Lumina
I’ve been working in the dark for two weeks now. My office used to have four working fluorescent tube lights… then became two, then zero. Thus I’ve resorted to using my desk lamp. Initially I was amused by the idea of working sans house lights; I described this setup as working in the mood not in the dark. But now that the second semester has started, I desperately need my house...

Never Forgotten
She had a unique name. Just browsing the class list I knew it wouldn’t be hard to remember this student, and what a challenge it is for us teachers to recall all our students’ names.
This was a short summer class attended by students of mixed courses. I try my best to remember all my students but it’s an almost impossible task, what with big classes and such little time to...

I open my eyes, get up, turn on Kaiser — my MacBook Pro — (if it’s shut down, that is), and log on to the web. Yes, like most of you, I start my day (right) by getting a feel of the zeitgeist.
Then I brush my teeth and take a shower. Breakfast optional.
I hadn’t realized it before but this Steve Jobs contraption is the first thing I interact with every day, and today was...

Gut
The first topic of my first lecture in DEVC50 (Introduction to Science Communication) is the four ways of knowing. They are: 1) authority, 2) common sense, 3) intuition, and 4) science.
One way of knowing is not necessarily better than the other, but my lecture has always been biased toward science. After all, it is a science communication subject. What makes science “special” (again,...

American Idolatry (Part 1)
I had no idea I was going to meet Haley Reinhart when I woke up this morning.
Actually, I could have never imagined typing that last sentence at the height of American Idol Season 10 frenzy, when I was rooting for her week in and week out. Even when I found out about the Philippine tour a couple months back, I knew there was a slim-to-none chance for me to either score a Haley Reinhart...

New Kicks
Long time, no update!
I sortof lost interest in blogging ever since my hard disk crashed, mainly because all the photos I’ve been planning to upload are in it. I still haven’t given up hope though. But I’m too busy to (once again) open up a willing CPU where I can hook up my hard disk to. If all else fails, I will probably take the drive to the data recovery doctors.
Aside from...

Failure to Launch
The worst thing imaginable just happened to me: my hard drive died.
Okay, “died” sounds too final when I haven’t even attempted to bring it back to life. (I would say it’s in purgatory right now.) Actually, I don’t care very much for the device itself, but I absolutely need to retrieve the data therein. Unfortunately, there was no foreboding of its demise. One day it was...

American Idol Tour in Manila
The Top 11 finalists of American Idol Season 10 will perform in Manila on September 20! I was beside myself when I found out about this news.
And here I was telling myself that I wasn’t into in any of the foreign acts that have been performing in the country lately. Little did I know all it would take to get me interested was an American Idol tour! My first reaction, of course, was to see...

30 Days Update
I love doing these 30-day challenges simply because they make things a little more interesting. I’m always up for a good challenge, especially if it has to do with proving something to myself haha! Plus it’s an amazing exercise of discipline and willpower because you don’t want to break the chain! 30-day tasks are also more doable and workable compared with 365-day challenges.
