Year #2
Today’s January 26, 2011, which means I’ve managed to get by two years as a vegetarian/pescetarian.
The first year was almost torture. Like I wrote in a past entry, I felt like I was going insane in my first months. My mistake was that I went cold turkey overnight. I decided I was going to be a vegetarian tomorrow and I just stuck to the plan, one day at a time. Year two wasn’t...

Minor Detail #4
I hate surprises.
What can I say, I’m not a spontaneous person and I have no funny bone in my body. This explains why I’m not fond of surprises like unannounced visits, public Happy Birthday performances, and, today, unexpected haircuts.
Actually, I don’t have a problem with this buzz cut per se. My issue is: I didn’t ask for it. I wanted just a trim, although I may not...

Minor Detail #3
This one’s still on the topic of travel, following Minor Detail #1 and #2. (I have a feeling the first set of entries will be travel-related.)
I’m fascinated by geography.
Okay fine, geography is too technical a term when what I’m really into is places. As in continents, regions, countries, states, provinces, cities, streets, you name it. I had a poster of world flags when I...

Minor Detail #2
This is sort of a continuation of Minor Detail #1. But first, allow me to embarrass myself by admitting that…
I love Enya.
Very much so that yesterday, my Last.Fm chart looked like this:
How this relates to travel I will get to in a while. But first, Enya (real name=Eithne, pronounced Enya). I learned about her in late 1997, when she released Paint the Sky with Stars. I was fascinated...

Minor Detail #1
I want to be a flight attendant.
Whenever I tell people, it seems the automatic response is, A flight attendant? Why not a pilot? Uhm, I want to be a flight attendant not because I want to be a flight attendant. I view it as simply a means to an end, that end being the limitless opportunity to travel. Besides, what in heaven’s name (pun intended) do I know about aviation for me to want to...

Minor Details
So I’m starting two blogging installments this year. The first is this, Minor Details; the second I will write about soon. Minor Details, because it’s going to contain, well, minor details about my favorite blogging topic: myself. What can I say, it’s the only subject I can write about with unabashed authority.
From 2003 to 2009 my blog had a separate Whois section that...

365 Days of Narcissism = DONE!
Some people have asked me what had become of my Project 365. Well, I completed it! I deactivated my Facebook account in November, and Facebook was where I housed my gallery. I never forgot to take a picture every day though (or, at least, have someone take a picture of me), and every day of 2010 is accounted for in my personal gallery.
Fil (who also took on the project) asked me what my Day 365...

Heredity
I’d just found my comfortable spot in the hammock when my grandfather summoned me to his flower garden. “Halika dito, ipapakita ko sa ‘yo ang gumamelang mestizo” (Come here, I will show you a hybrid hibiscus), he said.
I thought to myself: when was I ever interested in hybrid ornamentals, or in floriculture, for that matter? I could barely distinguish between a grass and a...

To the Sky
For New Year 2011, instead of toying with firecrackers, we released khoom fay to the sky.
Khoom fay is Thai for fire lantern. It’s a cylindrical lantern made of thin paper and bamboo sticks. According to Whoosh Fireworks:
Their sparkle can be seen flying up in the air for up to 20 minutes and will travel several miles in distance, after which the fuel cell (flame) will die out and they...

2010 in Review (Part 3/3)
Part 2/3 here
* * *
I decided to make a separate entry for the memorable dates portion of the year-ender Q&A because it relates to my Project 365, which I have successfully completed! I did it!
I was both excited and fearful to take on this project exactly one year ago. Excited because I’d never done it before. Well, I attempted to in 2005 but failed after a few months. I was...
