Closeup Stuff

This is my favorite among my current toothpaste tubes:

I use Hapee at work, White Now and Arm & Hammer at home, and Pepsodent or Colgate on the go. You don’t want to ask how many toothbrushes I own.

So, White Now. I forgot my Pepsodent when I went to Makati two weeks ago so I dropped by Watsons to get a small tube of toothpaste. But then I saw this Closeup White Now on display and you know how I’m attracted to new toothpaste brands so I got a regular tube of this instead. I don’t know how long this has been in the market but it was my first time to encounter it in Watsons. Also, correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think I’ve seen a Closeup brand explicitly labeled to whiten teeth, until this one.

I’ve been using it for two weeks now but it was only last night that I noticed how BLUE the foam was. You know how blue toothpaste creates a light blue foam when brushing? Well this one produced a rich blue foam, it looked a little… odd when I caught my reflection on the mirror. I checked the label, which read:

Closeup has developed an enhanced formulation containing a unique blue foam that through light reflection makes your teeth whiter and brighter* after just one brushing. The result is an instant effect that leaves your teeth visibly whiter.

*Optical effect is temporary. May cause stains in some fabrics.

So that explains it. I like how the product doesn’t promise you the moon, as any product shouldn’t. Plus, it’s pretty upfront that the whitening effect isn’t permanent, which is all right… better than nothing, I guess! But what I really like about the product is the smooth gel, the color (it may stain your white sink though), and the taste (“glacier fresh,” the label reads).

A few months ago I got myself a bottle of Closeup cinnamon mouthwash:

You know I love it when you combine cinnamon and mint, just like that glorious Crest Cinnamon Rush toothpaste (which I cannot find anywhere anymore). So I was excited to see this cinnamon mouthwash courtesy of Closeup, at Shopwise. It was also quite cheap at less than 100 pesos. As expected, it was bursting with spicy cinnamon flavor and left my mouth feeling clean and fresh. The only problem I have is: my mouthwash is missing. As in missing, gone, vanished.

I only noticed it last week. I didn’t notice earlier because I have another opened mouthwash, Swish. (You know me, I like using two or more different brands at once.) Last week I saw that my bottle of Swish was almost empty and that’s when I remembered that I also had a Closeup mouthwash (which was purchased to replace it).

Oh don’t worry, it wasn’t stolen. I must have just accidentally knocked it over, causing it to land smack inside my rubbish bin.

May the scavenger who’s found it enjoy fresher breath today.
