Day 25 Outtake
THE OBLIGATORY SHOT OF PHOTOGRAPHER AND CAMERA IN THE MIRROR. My camera, Skaya, turns one month old today! But let’s talk about my other camera. The one which goes by no name.
Two Decembers ago I’d planned to get myself a point-and-shoot camera. I particularly eyed the Lumix because, out of all the cameras I’d had the fortune to try, it was the Lumix that impressed me the most. Plus, I knew that Panasonic carried a line of compact point-and-shoot’s with high optical zoom, and high optical zoom is a must!
However, that Christmas, my parents foiled my plans by getting me a Casio Exilim point-and-shoot. It was a handy red 10MP camera (how is my adjective usage) with 3x optical zoom. They got me one because my original Exilim EX-Z750 (which was a joy to to use) gave up on me earlier that year. So instead of getting all excited about receiving a fine gadget on Christmas, my instantaneous reaction was, oh.
It took a while (and by a while, we’re talking months) before I learned the tricks of this particular model. Unlike my original Exilim which was user-friendlier, had better battery life, and took steadier pictures, this one was quite a challenge to use. I was ready to give up on it until I read the customer reviews online which were almost 100% positive.
To be fair, it does take pictures with amazing clarity (especially on sunny days) and it records high quality videos. In fact, a lot of my 365 Days pictures thus far have been captured by the Exilim. It would be a burden to lug around an SLR camera (when you’re already encumbered with a laptop) on a daily basis so this point-and-shoot really does me good. I guess it’s about time I gave it a name.
