Minor Detail #5

I don’t recall the last time I was asked my greatest/most significant accomplishment in life. Perhaps it was six years ago, in a job interview. It was one of those customary questions, which I felt was difficult for a fresh graduate to answer. What accomplishment? I haven’t done anything relevant yet. And yet, this one personal achievement presented itself rather quickly when I thought of my answer for the first time. In fact, I think it would still be my answer were I asked again today:

My biggest accomplishment is passing the UPCAT.

This might seem off-topic but today’s February 2, and I learned that I was an UPCAT qualifier on this day. Exactly 10 years ago.

Well, technically, I found out the night of February 1 because my mum got an insider tip. We senior high school students flocked to the UPLB Registrar’s Office to check out the list of qualifiers and there, in its dot-matrix glory, was my name and beside it, my future college — the UPLB College of Agriculture. But wait, I didn’t apply for a course under CA. It didn’t matter though; it was enough that I’d gotten in. That was all I ever wanted. (I later found out that my course, Development Communication, was then still listed under CA, its maiden college.)

So I texted JB this morning, asking what he was going to do to commemorate this date. He replied, why, what’s the occasion?

Oh only the most significant day of my life.
