Minor Detail #11

I find it easier to say “I’m an instructor” versus “I teach” because teaching is coupled with learning – who am I to assume that my students have, in fact, “learned” from me?

Yes, I would like to think that with my intervention as instructor, my students have picked up something from my classes. But learning goes beyond “picking up something” in class. “Learn” is a word I associate with my best college instructors and professors. I’m a relatively young instructor so I think it’s too early to dream of becoming a strong influence on my students. Add to the fact that I don’t have a charismatic bone in my body and my approach in class is rather rigid and businesslike.

So you can just imagine how this note from a student easily brought a smile to my face:

I am happy that I chose this course because if not, I would not have had a very kind and understanding professor like [me].
