Day 09 - A Song that You can Dance to

This entry a part of the 30 Day Song Challenge

So here’s the deal: I can’t sing to save my life and I can’t dance for sh!t. So that means, no music entry for today!

Oh fine.

The last time I remember dancing willingly AND in the presence of other people was, god, sixteen years ago. My sister and I were dancing to Macarena and my dad caught it all on camera. I think the video still exists, waiting to be used for blackmail.

But seriously, I don’t dance because I don’t know how to dance. When The Maker showered bodily-kinesthetic intelligence to the world I must have been sleeping. I remember during Drill Night 2001 my friends and I hit the dance floor and I was ~sortof~ game for it. After all, it wasn’t every day that we ROTC cadets could let loose. But the problem was, I didn’t know how to move. So I asked my friend, Okay what am I supposed to do? My friend said, You dance! I said, I know, what exactly do I do? And my friend was like, There are no rules! You just move to the beat! But that was the problem: I didn’t know how to. But I tried it — I tried to “move to the beat.” It was bad, really bad.

After that, I don’t recall ever attempting to dance again and I don’t think anything or anyone is going to change that.

So I guess it’s fair that we modify the day’s challenge to “A Song that You WISH YOU COULD Dance to.” My pick would be:

Bodyshakin’
911
The Journey
(Released January 1997)

And yet another song from the 90s. I have a feeling most of my songs for this music challenge will be from that decade.

Anyway, I remember getting hooked on this song when it came out. Catchy tune and groovy dance moves! Everybody danced along to this song, the way they danced along to the Backstreet Boys’ Get Down and Hanson’s Mmmbop.

I can’t dance to it, of course, but the heart thumping beat makes it a fine song to run along to.
