Day 05 - A photo of you
Well that’s specific.
Let me just post a recent picture of myself at the beach because that’s all I’ve been thinking about lately: my recent trip to Boracay and how life would be more fun if I lived by the beach (which, of course, is a pie in the sky).
I’m two-three tones darker now. The last time I was this dark was in Grade 3, at least based on family pictures and my own recollection. But I found it interesting when someone asked me yesterday, nagpaitim ka ba?
I think the English translation is, did you get a tan? but I don’t think that’s what the person meant. Plus, it’s not exactly common (at least I think it’s not) to be asked such question in this tropical country. Usually, it’s, nagpaputi ka ba? (Crude translation: did you whiten yourself?) After all, getting fairer demands conscious effort compared with getting darker, which is not quite the challenge here.
The answer, of course, is no. No, I did not intentionally want to get darker but I’ve been baking under the sun for two months so this new complexion isn’t exactly a surprise. I’d already gotten darker after my Cebu-Bohol trip last April; more darker (double comparative necessary!) after Singapore last May; and more, more darker after Boracay last week.
I don’t mind at all; in fact, I’m getting the hang of seeing a darker-skinned person in the mirror. I’m only glad I suffered from no sunburns this summer, thanks to SPF! Welcome to the dark side indeed.
