The One Who Understands You

I just finished watching season two of Fringe (look who’s late in the game!). Much to my dismay, Peter and Olivia did hook up. Not that there’s anything wrong; in fact, we all saw it coming. I just didn’t want it to happen, believing that the story was compelling on its own without the added layer of romance. But alas, it looks like something the show wants to explore.

I will say though, for all its mushiness, this exchange was rather… something.

However, reading it again, you can’t help but notice how egotistical this woman is. Peter says “I don’t belong there” but Olivia debunks him then adds “You belong with me.” Uhm, okay. The two of you belong together, fine, but weren’t you initially talking about parallel universes, as in belonging someplace? Companionship is a different bullet point, Olive!

And speaking of Olive, that was quite the season finale, no? Can’t say the twist with Alternate Olivia and Real Olivia switching places — rather switching universes — was unexpected though. I guess we all figured it was a possibility when Real Olivia changed her look to match Alternate Olivia’s. Plus, J.J. Abrams is not one to cap off a season with a joyful ending and with all questions answered.

I was a little annoyed at first, especially after sitting through an abysmal The Killing season finale. But at least this one’s a solid series, and this switcheroo makes for an interesting plot start in season three (which actually ended last May).
