Things You Need to Understand (but are Too Stubborn to) #3

When you accept a favor, realize that that person owes you nothing in return — unless of course you shook your hands on an deal. The same applies when you ask a favor from someone. You should not be expected to reciprocate anytime, anyhow. Utang na loob (debt of gratitude) is optional.

Now when you ask a favor from someone and they agree to it but fail to deliver in the end, you should not hold it against them. Nor should you make them feel that they disappointed you. Remember: you called them, they didn’t call you.

Yes, it takes some patience to not get upset with people who’ve let you down. It sucks even more if the favor you’re asking for is not exactly for your benefit. But what can you do, they’re only human. Plus, they don’t answer to you. No one answers to anyone as far as “favors” are concerned.
