Ray of Light- Natasha Bedingfield
Madonna’s Ray of Light is SICK, which is why I decided to use it as the background music for the surprise video we made for JB’s birthday on June 24. I edited it to make it feel like a movie trailer with some lightning-fast clips, as inspired by the rapid-fire images of the music video. Would love to upload it but JB would kill me haha. (Piece of trivia: JB told me the DVD was confiscated by office security because they’re prohibited to bring optical media in the workplace!)
Anyway, while looking for an instrumental version of Ray of Light, I stumbled upon this version by Natasha Bedingfield. I’d heard of BBC’s Radio One Established 1967 compilation (40 cover versions for BBC Radio One’s 40th anniversary) but I didn’t know about this remake by Miss Bedingfield! Apparently, this was her contribution for year 1998, when Ray of Light was released. Another artist featured in the compilation is part-Filipino Mutya Buena, who covered Tracy Chapman’s Fast Car for year 1988.
I will say this: Natasha’s take on Ray of Light is different. But I guess different was the only way to go considering that the original version is pretty untouchable. I thought it was a bit lazy and too affected the first time I heard it but I’ve come to like it that it’s now a part of my playlist.
