New Kicks

Long time, no update!

I sortof lost interest in blogging ever since my hard disk crashed, mainly because all the photos I’ve been planning to upload are in it. I still haven’t given up hope though. But I’m too busy to (once again) open up a willing CPU where I can hook up my hard disk to. If all else fails, I will probably take the drive to the data recovery doctors.

Aside from this, August has been crazy-busy, as mid-semester typically is. I often go on a blogging hiatus around this time! So yes, it’s been a mad month, with several urgent matters piling up. It’s not a good time to get sick, but sick I have been for two weeks this month! I’m pretty sure it’s stress-related, although that Tet-Tox vaccine probably had something to do with it too. (Which reminds me, my second shot is scheduled tomorrow!)

I ramble because I’m just thrilled to have snagged these new kicks:

I spent all day yesterday checking my students’ outputs and decided I was going to grade more papers today, but at a coffee shop at the mall. Well, I didn’t get any checking done. Plus, I ended up buying this pair of shoes when I had zero plans of buying anything, really.

But here’s the thing: this is only the third (as far as I can remember) pair I’ve gotten for myself this year. And that’s saying a lot considering that, around this time last year, I had already amassed around 10 pairs, most of which I don’t get to wear as often anymore.

I’ve come to realize that when it comes to footwear, quality trumps quantity. Plus, it’s probably best to stick to ones you will absolutely love and will last a long time. My three purchases of late are definitely worthy investments.

And THIS PAIR is truly worth investing on, because I know I’ll wear it until it wears out. I first set eyes on it last December but I knew it was out of my league when I saw the price tag of nearly ten grand!

Today I saw it on window display so I thought of checking it out again, hoping it was on sale. Well, it was marked down to 1/3 the original price! And the shop had it in my size! There was only one pair left (but I have a feeling all stores say this anyway) so it wasn’t that hard to convince myself to go get it!

These are exactly my kind of kicks: relaxed, versatile, and casual but neither “serviceable-” nor sloppy-looking.

Being the *supposed* last pair (and marked down at that), the shoes aren’t perfect, with a few minor scratches here and there. But I didn’t mind it too much because it’s rare that I find a pair that I really like. And I loved this pair the first time I saw it last year. Actually, it wasn’t this brown pair that I’d originally wanted. I wanted the dark blue…

…although it looks more like black in the picture. I would have gotten the blue ones had I not bought this similar pair (dark blue boots with camel shoelaces) last month.

But I’m very okay with this pair. I consider it a fine replacement of this brown pair I got last year.

I can’t wait to put it on, but then it would most likely rain that day. It almost always rains whenever I wear a new pair for the first time. It seems like the universe’s humorous (or retarded, depending on how you look at it) way of baptizing its first steps.
